Summit Fire Department Today
The Summit Fire Department has come a long way since it was originally organized in 1891. The 1927 Seagrave engine was cutting edge technology at the time and the Summit Fire Department remains at the forefront of fire fighting today.
Today the Fire Department is staffed 24/7 by a staff of 32 career firefighters who receive assistance as needed from a group of about 14 active volunteers.
In 2011, the Summit Fire Department became only the 2nd in New Jersey to earn internationally accredited status from the Center For Public Safety Excellence. Fewer than 150 fire departments world wide have achieved this honor.
